*collapses*

Fred (all falls down)
I have lived in Australia for 27 years now, and today, for the first time, I got heat-stroke. (Or possibly heat-exhaustion. We're not quite sure.)

This all happened because I was outside walking around without water for a grand total of three hours. It wasn't even all that hot - only 32 degrees (90F) - but my body just decided to shut down.

So I almost fainted, then drank lots of water, then vomited all the water back up onto the floor of the train, got escorted home by a very concerned colleague, and spent several hours lying on my mum's couch hoping I'd feel better soon.

THIS WEEK'S PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: DRINK WATER, FOLKS. THERE'S NOTHING 'UN-COOL' ABOUT HEALTHY HYDRATION LEVELS.

(For the record - yes, I am feeling much better. Thanks for asking.)

:shudder:

Give me a temperate climate any day.

Glad you're okay.

Well, we're in the temperate zone. "Temperate" just means that it's neither tropical nor arctic :-p

Oh! Deird! I'm glad someone escorted you home!!! Were they on the train with you at the time?

Yes, they were.

And Mum was lovely and came to collect me.

So, really, I was very well looked after...

Do NOT do this to me.

Look after yourself, honey.

I'm so glad you're okay.

The idea that you live where 90 deg. is "not all that hot" is scary. :) But I'm glad you're feeling better. Keep that water bottle handy from now on. :)

90? Hah! We had a week of 105 last summer. *scoffs*

I really must remember to drink more, though...

*hugs* Glad you're okay, hun.

*gives you about 30 gallons of water*

*drinks 30 gallons of water and collapses from over-hydration*
:)

Thanks!

It's not the water, it's all the walking-around-upside-down you folks insist on. ;-)

*hugs* Take care.

Hoo boy! Do I feel your pain on this one. I am ridiculously susceptible to this (along with sunburn). My da, who insists on traveling to all sorts of places that lead to heat "exhaustion" has so given up on worrying about uncoolness that he wraps a t-shirt around his head and keeps pouring water on it, in addition to drinking lots of water. I'm guessing that wouldn't go over well for you at work. Be careful out there, darlin'! Sun kills! Do you think writing all this vampire fic has made you more sensitive to sunbeams? Heh.

Heh. Very possibly.

(Actually, I've been using a parasol to stay out of direct sunlight - and I was thinking just yesterday that it would be really useful if I was a vampire... *pictures Harmony using a bright pink parasol*)

You make me feel so much better about the outside 7 degrees and mizzling. Thank you. (Glad you're on the mend).

Want to swap climates?

Glad you're fine. Artist!sis used to pass out on a regular basis due to dehydration.

Oh dear! That's very upsetting. Glad you feel better, indeed.

I've luckily never had that, but I have a friend who faints real easy if it's all stuffy and crowded - when we go to concerts she usually has to break a couple times if it gets too hot and people-y.

I'm glad you're feeling better! Hydration is, indeed, key.

Lordy!
I've never met anyone who's had heatstroke! Frightening.
Glad someone looked after you! (I like to think that if I found someone on the train who was sick, I'd escort them home, no matter how far out of my way it was...seems the decent thing to do!)

Make sure you have your aircon on then on the weekend so Shep and I don't melt, too! :-p
